FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions photographers ask most before getting started.
Still have a question?
I'm Franz, and I built Photoglacier. If your answer isn't here, just ask and I'll get back to you.
Contact meWhat is the best way to deliver photos to clients online?
For most photographers, the answer is a private online gallery. You upload the finished images, arrange them, and send your client a single link. They view everything in the browser, mark their favorites, and download the files in whatever quality you allow. It beats USB sticks, email attachments, and expiring file transfers on every point that matters: speed, presentation, and control.
What is a client gallery and why do photographers use one?
A client gallery is a private web page where a photographer delivers finished photos. Instead of pushing files around, you send one link and your client sees their images properly presented, with favorites, downloads, and feedback built in. Photographers use gallery software like Photoglacier because the delivery is part of the experience they charge for. A zip file undersells the work.
How do I deliver wedding photos to clients?
Create a gallery for the couple, upload the finished images, and group them into sections like getting ready, ceremony, and reception. Then send one link. With Photoglacier this takes a few minutes, not an evening. The couple downloads everything in full resolution, and you can open the gallery to family and guests too.
Do my clients need an account or an app to see their photos?
No. A gallery is a normal web page, so your clients simply open the link in the browser, on any phone, tablet, or computer. There is nothing to install and no account to create. Depending on your settings, visitors may first enter their email address or a password, and you decide that per gallery.
Can clients download photos in high resolution?
Yes. You choose the download quality for every gallery, from web-sized files up to the full-resolution originals, and you can turn downloads off entirely. You can also protect downloads with a PIN. Clients get exactly the files they are supposed to get, and nothing leaves the gallery without your say-so.
Can clients share their gallery with family and friends?
Yes, and for weddings that is half the point. Anyone with the link, and the password if you set one, can view the photos, react to them, and download what you allow. Guest lists let you collect email addresses upfront and send the gallery to everyone at once when it is ready.
How do clients pick favorites and give feedback?
Clients star, like, or reject photos right in the gallery, and you see every reaction in your dashboard. When they are done, you export the selected filenames with one click and paste them into Lightroom to filter the picks. On higher plans clients can also leave comments on individual photos.
Do galleries expire? How long do photos stay online?
Galleries stay online for as long as you want. There is no automatic expiry and no countdown, not even on the Free plan. You decide when a gallery comes down. That makes Photoglacier a permanent home for client photos rather than a temporary transfer link.
Do I need my own website to share client galleries?
No. Photoglacier hosts everything, so you can deliver professional work before you ever build a website. If you already have a brand, connect your own domain, like galleries.yourstudio.com, and your galleries live on your address with your name on them.
Can I customize galleries to match my brand?
Yes. You set fonts, colors, layouts, and the cover image for each gallery, and you can save the setup as a preset so every delivery looks consistent. From the Solo plan you can also connect a custom domain and remove the Photoglacier branding completely. Clients see your studio, not ours.
Can I password-protect a gallery?
Yes. Paid plans let you put a password on any gallery, which is worth it for weddings and anything personal. Every plan can also require visitors to enter their email address before viewing, so you know who is looking. And high-resolution downloads can get their own PIN on top.
Where are my photos stored, and is Photoglacier GDPR compliant?
All photos live on secure servers in Germany, and Photoglacier is built and run in Austria. Your data and your clients' data never leave the EU, and the platform is fully GDPR compliant. When a client asks where their family photos are stored, you have a short, reassuring answer.
Is there a free plan for photographers?
Yes, and it is genuinely free: 5 GB of storage, unlimited galleries, full image quality, and no time limit. That covers a small wedding or a handful of portrait sessions. No credit card, no trial countdown. You upgrade only when you need more storage or features like your own domain.
How much does photo gallery software cost?
Photoglacier starts free with 5 GB. Paid plans add storage, password protection, a custom domain, and team features, with flat monthly pricing: no per-image fees, no download fees, no commission on anything. You can change or cancel your plan whenever you like.
How is Photoglacier different from Dropbox, Google Drive, or WeTransfer?
Those tools move files. They were never meant to present photography. Your client gets a wall of file icons, or a transfer link that expires within days. A Photoglacier gallery shows the actual images, large and in your branding, with favorites, feedback, and download control built in. The delivery finally matches the work.
Is Photoglacier a good alternative to Pixieset, Pic-Time, or ShootProof?
It depends on what you need. Those suites bundle print shops, website builders, and marketing automation. Photoglacier deliberately does one thing well: delivering and proofing photos, with EU hosting, GDPR compliance by default, and pricing that stays simple. If selling prints through your gallery is essential, a big suite may serve you better. If you want fast, private, European photo delivery, that is exactly what Photoglacier is.
Does Photoglacier work for studios and teams?
Yes. The Studio plan includes three team seats and Pro can add seats, so several photographers can work in one account with shared storage. For commercial and agency jobs, Boards add collaborative review: comments, annotations directly on the image, and version history until sign-off.
How quickly can I start delivering photos?
Today. Create an account, upload a session, send the link. The first gallery honestly takes about five minutes, there is nothing to install and no setup project. If you have finished photos waiting on your drive right now, you can deliver them this afternoon.
